The ‘past’ doesn’t exist, except in our minds now.
The ‘future’ doesn’t exist, except in our minds now.
But ‘now’ has already gone by the time the word is said.
SO, when you get ‘there’, there isn’t any ‘there’ there.
‘There’ is ‘here’, and life is ‘here’, or it’s nowhere.
The picture and words are from a buddhist website, but Jesus is reported as saying, “The kingdom of God is within you”. In other words, from a personal point of view, it’s not ‘there’ but, if it’s anywhere, it’s ‘here’.
Both these great teachers can be understood to be telling us to ‘wake up’ to what is already the case, and to live our lives, from moment to re-born moment, in the light of that.
In which case, ‘enlightenment’, or ‘salvation’ if one so chooses, becomes as simple, as readily available, as profound, and as potentially life-changing, as that.
Is this too good to be true?
